Parkour Server

    Recently, I have been on the hub completing the parkour over and over again. While parkouring, I thought that perhaps SxC could add parkour to the server. Not as another addition to the hub, but as an actual server. Adding a parkour server could possibly bring more users to SxC and bring back player interest. To make it easier and less "rage" worthy, I was thinking there could be 3 levels (easy, medium, and hard) with some different parkour courses.

    Comment what you guys think ;) (Btw, I am not the best at explaining x-x)

    Some of the first servers I have been to back in 2013 had large sections of Parkour. What do you think the benefit would be to it having its own server? This is possible, but I am worried about player engagement, and we will also need contributors to the project as well as strict guidelines on dimensions, blocks used (for theme purposes), and what makes a course easy, difficult, or hard.

    We can either use the parkour plugin we have been using in the hub for ages, or we can make a new one if there are any features you think would help out.

    Parkour is quite an old activity of minecraft that is still fun to play these days, my favorite ones were those where you had to go around in a closed course to get to the next level, I think we should have 3 size type, a small, medium and a large parkour course format. The small one being 100x100 max, the medium being 250x250 max and the large one being up to 500x500 (other size suggestions? too high? too small?). the maps being in the order of difficulty and the players needing to beat a level to get to the next.

    I'm not sure if we should also add boat parkour or have a separate sub-server for all boat related games like boat races? since the races could include some boat parkour...

    • The reason for having a server of parkour: Think of yourself as a new player. Would you actually look at a fence or the compass? Most users would look at the compass and see what the server has to offer. If we have a parkour server, then some who are interested in the parkour will stay. Little, to almost none look at the other items in their hotbar. Some occasionally look at the enderpearl because its interesting, and most do not look at a fence post.
    • If needed, I can help with making parkour courses. But I would like to make this a server contributed parkour. So perhaps, those that would like to, can help make parkour courses so that players feel engaged in the community.
    • Difficulty can be based on a number of things. It can be the block placement (a lot of 3/4 block jumps) or even the different combinations of blocks (soul sand and ice, trap doors, regular doors, cactus, invisible blocks).
    • I'm not really sure what the parkour plugin includes, but I believe it can be used.

    This is a great idea, and there are so many possibilities of different types, different world sizes, etc. I did like the old plug-in 321, so I do think that should be kept.

    I wish the plugin didn't require to step on pressure plate to activate a checkpoint, but rather a different system where a whole area can be a checkpoint, that way players wouldn't need to worry about stepping on them... I also find that for sometime odd reason or when you move on the side of the pressure plate, the current system would fail to detect a player reached it... that explain why I used to get to the finish line when the first checkpoint wasn't even triggered.

    A parkour plugin would be easy to make. As for the arena size it would be better to have more narrow arenas as they fit well together.
