Rules

When players first login, there is usually a small box where you register your password etc. I think it would be beneficial to the server if we have a "Have you read the rules?" Room after you register your account. There should also be two portals, one labeled yes and no. The yes portal will transfer you straight to hub while the no portal posts the link to the rules in their chat. After they enter the no portal, they get teleported back into the "Have you read the rules?". This way, we can ensure all player have read the rules or admitted that they have read them.

 

Great Idea. They could also perhaps add a sign and when you tap on it, it will say "Before you proceed, please read the rules."

 

Actually i like that idea.

 

If players do avoid them and go straight to the "yes", we can then say you agreed on reading the rules when you joined so they can't have an excuse of not reading them.

Trolling 101

 

I got this idea from another server. When new players just join in, they should have to take a mini quiz. Following your ideas, there is a sign which says yes or no in each portal, if you enter the ´yes´ portal you take the quiz without any help of anybody else. If you enter no, you get teleported to a room where there are the rules. After you read the rules, simply it will just take you to the place where you will take the quiz. If you fail the quiz, you get teleported back to the rules room.

Additional Information: This should only be for new players, it might somehow waste their time, but tbh i´d rather waste my time on reading rules than having to appeal and be able to apologize because of a mistake.

 

I doubt you are reading them all the way if you do that

 

just make the rules appear in the chat
that way players cant say that "I didnt know that was a rule."

 

Yeah. That is a good idea. Like have them pop up every 10 minutes or so. The only problem is that they could take up alot of the chat space

 

Yes but certain people like me will sometimes hide chat temporalily or permenantly as I have done previously. It's must be something consistant that everyone can see without fault.

 

That's over implicating things. I would like it to be simple for the sanity of myself, players and especially the staff.

 

u know how is says "Welcome to ShadowXCraft!" when u login, right after that make it say "READ THE RULES!!"

 

To be COMPLETELY honest EVERY player DOESN'T read the rules until their second login AT THE MINIMUM. (When i came here the hub was a towny thing that had a similar rules system being said here, i didn't read any of it because to be honest most servers have a lot of rules in common. Plus at the time i was more interested in what the server was about) As Tspringst33n said there is a sign at /hub that says that by playing you do agree that you have read the rules. This i think was even on old hub. About every 1 in every 20 people notice it and pay attention for it because again LOTS of servers do this and players don't care until their maybe second login. This although sounds good is TERRIBLE, a huge amount of servers try this and to no surprise still get players using the excuse "I didn't read the rules" or "i didn't know". Its not that people are not given the information but rather don't care enough to read. Also there is a chat msg about every hour saying "Please remember to read the rules", "please do not joke about hacking" and so on( I may be wrong about the time it may be every 30 min but i don't keep track XD). So people are given a fair warning to read them if they wish. People who come back for a second login to make this server one of their regulars usually read the rules between logins 2-20. Afterword if they read the rules a lot of players re-read the rules because sometimes things change, or they don't re-read the rules and you still get people who although read the rules didn't read all the rules.

The ONLY exception to the above is when you have a hacker and a minecraft newcomer. Because a hacker will read the rules to break them (I'm not joking) and a minecraft newcomer will read the rules because more then likely they are new to servers, they also may ask questions to staff.
